Laura and Juliet met in 1992. At the time, both unlicensed and working under the same supervisor. Being like-minded and like-hearted, they formed a lifelong collegial and personal friendship. Within 6 months, they decided to venture out on their own. It wasn’t long before the business began to grow.
By 1996, GBCC was formed (at that time called the Glen Burnie Counseling Center). Neither Juliet nor Laura had formal business training, but shared an entrepreneurial spirit. They did everything from filling out insurance billing forms by hand, to painting offices and putting furniture together. The company was grown with sweat, hard work and sacrifice in an era when managed care had the tightest grip on clinician fees and access to care. Those leaner times were a true test of their determination to succeed.
The second location in Odenton was chosen in 2008 to provide increased services to the Ft. Meade base and military families. As with the first location, Odenton grew and has become an important resource for services in the community. We took it a step further by purchasing and renovating the dilapidated historic Kiwanis Club building in Odenton in 2014. We are very proud to have fully restored this gem, adding modern amenities while maintaining it’s historic integrity. It is the ultimate in recycling!
Similarly to Odenton, the opening of GBCC’s 3rd location in TImonium, has ushered in a new specialty area: serving the LGBT community. We are proud to offer outstanding services for this underserved population.
Since our inception in 1996, the Greater Baltimore Counseling Center, LLC has grown to 3 locations, with over 50 clinicians specializing in ages 5 to geriatrics. We are dedicated to serving the community and committed to providing access to quality mental health care in a safe and affirming environment.
