Our Story

Laura and Juliet are lifelong friends and professional colleagues who founded GBCC Behavioral Health in February 1996. Although neither had formal business training, they shared a strong entrepreneurial vision and an unwavering commitment to providing quality mental health care. The practice was built through dedication and perseverance during a period when managed care imposed significant limitations on access to services. Despite these challenges, GBCC not only endured but steadily grew and flourished.

In its early years, Laura and Juliet were involved in every aspect of the organization’s operations. It was not uncommon to find them painting offices, assembling furniture, or manually completing insurance billing forms. Their hands-on leadership and forward-thinking approach positioned GBCC as a pioneer in private practice, making it one of the first behavioral health practices in Maryland to offer full-time, salaried, and benefited positions for clinicians.

Our mission is to improve lives by providing compassionate, accessible, high-quality outpatient behavioral health care in a safe, inclusive, and affirming environment for our community. To that end, in 2017, GBCC established its LGBTQ+ Affirming Care Line to expand access to experienced, affirming providers for therapy and surgical evaluations. The practice also offers specialized services for First Responders, comprehensive medication management, and bariatric evaluations.

In 2021, GBCC expanded beyond Maryland with the opening of a location in Reston, Virginia, and the acquisition of Oasis Rapid Care in Annapolis. This acquisition broadened GBCC’s outpatient service offerings, providing timely access to care for individuals appropriate for an outpatient setting and guaranteeing appointments within 48 hours. In 2025, GBCC continued its growth with new locations in the Perry Hall, Bel Air, and Cockeysville communities. With these additions, GBCC now operates nine locations throughout the Baltimore metropolitan area.

GBCC remains deeply committed to the community it serves and to ensuring access to high-quality mental health care for individuals who must rely on using their health insurance to obtain services.
