Fern Cohen

Therapist

With a background in Social Work and Jewish Studies from the University of Maryland School of Social Work (1991) and certification from the Baltimore Institute of Jewish Communal Service, I bring a dynamic blend of academic prowess and practical experience to my role as a therapist. Over the years, I have enriched various nonprofit organizations as an educator, community organizer, and social worker, drawing on the deep insights gained from raising three successful young adults, including an autistic son whose journey has greatly influenced my approach to therapy.

Drawing from decades of professional experience and lived insight, I also have a special appreciation for working with older adults and individuals navigating later-life transitions, identity shifts, and evolving family roles. My work is grounded in respect for each client’s story and the belief that growth and self-discovery are possible at every stage of life.

As a Certified Autism Specialist (CAS) and holder of an Advanced Trauma Treatment certification through the Ferentz Institute, I am dedicated to championing neurodiversity and implementing a strength-based, trauma-informed approach in my work. My practice is especially focused on helping autistic individuals and others aged 12 and up in their quests for self-identity, self-advocacy, effective communication, and fulfilling relationships.

I am passionate about the transformative power of mindfulness and lifelong learning in therapy. I warmly invite clients to embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, guided by my empathetic, knowledgeable, and nonjudgmental support. Let’s explore together the pathways to greater self-understanding and wellbeing.
