Shannon received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Salisbury University (2008) and her Master of Education Degree in Elementary and Secondary School Counseling from Wilmington University in 2015. Over the past eight years, Shannon has worked as an Elementary School Counselor in Dorchester, Charles, and now Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Prior to her career as a School Counselor, Shannon provided in-home support services to families through the Department of Social Services and assisted pregnant mothers and young children through the Healthy Families program of the Dorchester Health Department. Shannon has completed the Mental Health Specialist certification through the American School Counselor Association and has also completed the Advanced Certificate in School Counseling through Wilmington University. Shannon currently has her Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) certification as well as her National Counselor Certification through the National Board of Certified Counselors.
Shannon knew from an early age she had a passion for helping others. After becoming a mother, her passion flourished into pursuing her School Counseling degree. Shannon loves working with children in the school setting and the collaboration that comes with working so closely with school staff, parents, and community resources to support the child’s social and emotional needs. Shannon understands the importance of having a positive therapist-client relationship and wholeheartedly believes that with the right amount of courage and willingness to be open, everyone can heal and find peace in their lives – it all starts with asking for help. Shannon’s therapeutic style is a combination of person-centered, cognitive behavioral, and solution-focused approaches as well as utilizing play therapy techniques when working with elementary school children. Shannon looks forward to this new journey at GBCC and is so excited to be a support and safe place for her future clients.
