My name is Melissa Smith and I am a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in the state of Maryland with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, MD.
I have had the opportunity to work with clients of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. By working with a diverse population, I collaborated with clients to establish an individualized treatment plan that worked best for them. I have utilized techniques using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Narrative Therapy. I have assisted clients experiencing anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, trauma, grief/loss, and family and relationship dynamics.
I have a passion for working with first responders and helping them to adopt appropriate coping skills to help them through the daily challenges they face in their jobs. My goal is to assist all clients by establishing a genuine therapeutic working relationship that enhances the development of self-improvement, establish health coping skills, and the achievement therapeutic goals.
