Director / Licensed Psychologist
Sarah Simpson is a Licensed Psychologist who received her Ph.D. in Clinical Health Psychology from Drexel University in Philadelphia. She completed her clinical training at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the San Francisco VA. Dr. Simpson identifies primarily with a cognitive behavioral framework, but also utilizes mindfulness, humanistic, and insight-oriented approaches as appropriate. Optimal well-being and quality of life are primary goals of therapy. Problems are explored and understood through a holistic perspective that considers biological, emotional, spiritual, and interpersonal/relational characteristics of an individual. Her practice specialties include depression, anxiety, coping with medical illnesses such as cancer or pain, weight and eating disorders, smoking cessation, grief/loss, trauma, relationship difficulties, and acute/chronic stress. In addition, she has training in behavioral sleep medicine, offering treatment for children, adolescents, and adults experiencing sleep difficulties such as insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, nightmares, sleepwalking, sleep terrors, tolerating CPAP for sleep apnea, or coping with narcolepsy. In addition to her clinical role at GBCC, Sarah became Director in 2019 overseeing the Medication Management program.
